Fun With Homemade Popcicles

My favorite thing to make this time of year is popcicles. I prefer to make popcicles at home because they are delicious and have a lot less sugar and chemicals in it than store bought popcicles plus, no dyes. It’s essentially guilt and worry free popcicles. I usually make them out of 1 of 3 bases.

A water kefir base. A water kefir base is great because water kefir is a probiotic and very lightly sweetened. You can take some water kefir, add or blend your favorite fruit of choice, pour it into the Popsicle mold and there you go, a probiotic popcicle.

The second base is coconut water. I use these on super hot days. I make sure the coconut water is no sugar added and again simply blend with your fruit of choice, pour into your mold and you have a delicious and hydrating popcicle.

I’ve also tried and enjoyed an herbal tea base . I steep some peach tea. Once it cooled I blended it with fresh peaches and poured it into popcicle molds. It was delicious and gave it an extra pop of peach flavor.

Those are my main bases but I’ve also made fudge pops which are a milk base (I’ll link the video I watched below) and one that was a coconut milk base.

I prefer more water based popcicles because they are hydrating and not as sticky.

If you want to be extra, which I enjoy being from time to time. You can mix your water kefir with coconut water blend it with some water melon and you have a super hydrating probiotic popcicle which could be great if you have young children in sports.

My go to fruits for popcicles are berries and citrus fruits. For instance I may do water kefir and fresh squeezed lemon for a lemon popcicle or blueberry and coconut water. Also all these popcicles can be sweetened to you or your children’s preference.

As a parent it’s great when you can give your kids treats that are not filled with junk ingredients and that is actively nutritious and good for them on hot summer days.

I hope this has inspired you to try making your own popcicles.
