7 things I love about eating a keto diet

—

I have been carb cycling in and out of a keto diet for about a month now and here are the things I love about eating keto

  1. I easily hit my protein goals. Before starting keto. I struggled to hit my 100 grams protein goal every day. Now I am averaging 122grams of protein a day with minimum effort .
  2. I get to indulge in all my favorite high fat foods like heavy cream and butter. I use heavy cream and butter so often now. In my coffee, in my soup. Anytime I need extra fat in a meal I just add a little butter or heavy cream.
  3. A side benefit of keto is I’m drastically eating less sugar. I was already mindful of my added sugar intake but when I started keto I realized just how many foods had sugar that I hadn’t realized. It really helped open my eyes to make better informed decisions about certain foods.
  4. I get to be really creative with both my meal prep and with my baked foods. I’ve made a chicken crunchy broccoli salad and learned how to make low carb cookies without using artificial sweetener. It’s fun and rewarding to figure it out.
  5. My taste buds have changed. I can taste the sweetness in milk, in carrots, in sweet potatoes. I can also taste the artificialness in my coffee and now am looking for a better quality coffee.
  6. I don’t crave sweets anymore.  I now can easily resist gummy candy and commercially made chocolate. I feel in better control of what I put in my mouth because my body is no longer addicted to sugar.
  7. I’m eating more instinctively and can now trust my cravings. I was ovulating and was looking up foods good to eat during that time and realized all the foods I was craving were on the list of what I should be eating. It’s wonderful to get to a point in my health journey when I can trust my body to tell me what to eat instead of trusting someone/something else.

Starting keto was an extension of doing intermittent fasting. Just like with doing intermittent fasting, eating a keto diet has truly helped me and transformed my life in ways I hadn’t expected.
