Solar Eclipse and Tulips

1 / 1

I had the great fortune of being off today. Unlike in 2017, this eclipse caught me by surprise. Its not that I hadn’t heard about it. It was just that In my current state of being a busy new mom I did not prepare for the eclipse like I had when I was single and child free. For the last eclipse I made solar eclipse sunglasses out of a cereal box, which was really cool.

This time around I did not have the mental space or the energy do that. I looked up eclipse glasses and saw that Walmart sold them but they were all sold out. Thinking creatively I thought, as my currently glasses are transitional maybe I could find my sunglasses and put them under my regular glasses. My thinking being, it would be ok seeing as I am essentially wearing two pairs of sunglasses. I know that sounds ridicules but I revel in the ridicules and was determined to try it.  Unfortunately, I was unable to locate the sunglasses that had been staring me in my face for the last six months. Isn’t that always the case? With no success I decided I would just put my cell phone camera in selfie mode and look at the eclipse that way. Thankfully it was cloudy here. Cloudy enough that I could look up at the eclipse without it bothering my eyes but not so cloudy that I couldn’t see it at all. It was a special moment to share with my daughter even though she wasn’t even aware of that was happening.

After the Eclipse, I put her down for a nap and started messing around in my garden. I noticed, happily, that my tulips are about ready to bloom! This is more exciting for me than usual due to my Tulip debacle last spring. Last year I planted my tulips in the early spring after forgetting about them in my laundry room all winter. I got plenty of foliage but no flowers last year. They say tulips do not come back so I had no expectation of get any tulips this year. I am gladly mistaken. I cant wait for them to bloom and look forward to experimenting to  see if I can successfully get my tulips to flower each spring without having to dig them out and bring them in the house. Today so far has been a fun and exciting day.
